SENIOR YEAR

SEPTEMBER –Beginning of Senior Year!

Attend one on one senior meeting with your counselor
Once you begin applying to schools, in SCOIR move schools from “following” to “applied”
Follow step-by-step college application instructions (document included later in this packet)
IF applying to a Common Application school, create a Common App account.
Many Michigan schools are using the Common Application This application is time consuming--make sure you give yourself ample time to complete.
Talk to your counselor about when it would benefit you to apply through the Common App.
IF the colleges you are applying to require a letter, complete the “Student Questionnaire/Brag Sheet”
Make a copy for yourself (or take a picture of the document) before turning into your counselor and/or teacher.
Request letters of recommendation if you have not already done so. (Provide each teacher with a copy of the “Brag Sheet”)
Register to take the next ACT or SAT if you are unsatisfied with your scores.
Attend meetings with postsecondary representatives who visit ROHS
open to all grade levels, visits posted in SCOIR calendar and updated in the Raven Review
Continue visiting campuses. There is no substitute for seeing it yourself!
Research scholarship opportunities (various deadlines…watch closely)
Students participating in college athletics must be registered through NCAA/NAIA
Login to Xello and update your EDP. Make sure it’s at 100% completion. See Career and Testing Coordinator with questions.

OCTOBER

October 15th: historically this is the first possible college application deadline (check each individual school for exact deadlines) (all transcript and letter of rec requests must be made a minimum of 10 days in advance)
Attend the FAFSA Workshop (date TBD) (underclassmen welcome too!)
Attend the Future Fair: an evening event with a variety of college reps, trade schools, military recruiters, etc.
Attend Meetings with postsecondary representatives who visit ROHS (see calendar in SCOIR)
Research scholarship opportunities (various deadlines…watch closely)
Continue to visit postsecondary institutions
Stay involved in school and community activities
It is recommended to have all college applications completed by October 31st. DO NOT wait until the last minute to submit.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER

November 1st: Historically this is the Early Action deadline for U of M and many other schools
check each individual school for exact deadlines
all transcript and letter of rec requests must be made a minimum of 10 days in advance
DECEMBER: For the 24-25 (Class of 2024) FAFSA, the site is being modified and will not be available until sometime in December. Date TBD. FAFSA becomes available. File FAFSA as soon as possible (before March 1).

scholarship opportunities available in Xello
Review financial aid award letters and compare.
Keep up your grades! Many schools review your first semester senior year grades (AKA 7th semester grades)
Thank teachers for writing letters of rec for you…handwritten notes are especially nice!

JANUARY/FEBRUARY

Continue to monitor the status of your applications.
Prepare for 1st semester exams
Research scholarship opportunities (various deadlines…watch closely)
Regular admissions deadline is typically between January 1 and February 1. (all transcripts and letter of rec requests must be made a minimum of 10 days in advance)
Submit FAFSA if you have not already done so. Review financial aid award letters and compare.
February 1st: Request 7th semester transcripts via SCOIR (if your school has requested them). Directions included later in this packet.
Mid-February: Mid-Year reports due (request from counselor if your school(s) require a mid-year report).
Continue to maintain strong grades through the end of senior year.

MARCH/APRIL

Review acceptances and financial aid offers from schools
If you have not already done so, visit all institutions who have granted you admissions.
Continue to research scholarship opportunities
Continue to maintain strong grades through the end of senior year
Decide which institution you will attend, contact them, and pay your deposit by the deadline
Notify institutions that you do not plan to attend.
Prepare for AP/IB exams and complete AP/IB tests (if applicable)
MAY
May 1st: Final college acceptance decision must be made on or before May 1st.
Complete the “Postsecondary Plans Survey” sent to you via GoogleForm
In SCOIR, update your final choice from “Applied” to “Mark as enrolling”
Your transcript will automatically be sent to the school indicated in SCOIR
Final transcript is not sent until after the school year ends for underclassmen in June
If your final choice is in Common Application, your counselor will automatically send your transcript to the choice you indicated in the “Postsecondary Plans Survey”
Continue to maintain strong grades through the end of senior year. Your final transcript is sent to the institution you are attending.
Pay your deposit if you have not already done so
Take AP/IB tests
Accept your financial aid package
Take any required placement tests your institution requires

JUNE of Senior Year

GRADUATION!!!
Final transcripts will be sent after the conclusion of the semester. Institutions will review your final transcript to confirm that you have finished your senior year successfully.

Sign up for summer orientation at the institution you’re attending
Set up your living situation.
Choose your meal plan
Send in your immunization record
Check your college email regularly
